Lots of colorful petrified wood

[wick e. pedia]

I found this dead ponderosa a pretty apt mascot of Lower Death Hollow on a trip through it back in '23. I was (and still am, looking at these pictures again) fascinated by the contrast in color between it, the white walls, and the deep blue skies on a perfectly clear day.

Wow - beautiful colors and designs. I'd love to see that sometime.

Nick, I found this tree in my photos, and it reminded me of your tree! (this one is near Hite)

I also really love this tree

tree on the rim in Hawai'i Volcanoes NP
It just died recently because of the ash, tephra, and gases

windswept tree in the Ka'u district near South Point, HI
You can clearly tell which way the wind is always blowing

Sequoia from this month.

I've been helping some botany folks protect whitebark pines in the Central Cascades of WA. We're attaching packets emitting beetle pheromone that deter the bugs from invading the trees.
Here's a few of the more stately trees, by Cascades standards.

I always wanted a shot of this tree silhouetted against a massive lava fountain. It took a while, but I finally got it last night.
The fountain is about 1.2 miles away and about 740 feet tall. I could feel the heat from where I was.
